“Empowering Recovery: Ethics and Shared Decision-Making in Behavioral Health” is a free, self-paced, continuing education-accredited training. The course is a collaborative effort between Harborview Behavioral Health Institute and the Washington State Health Care Authority.

 

The course was designed for Substance Use Disorder Professionals and Trainees, Mental Health Practitioners and trainees, and others working in behavioral health care.

 

This training is designed to provide tools and knowledge for integrating ethical principles and shared decision-making in behavioral health care. The course covers key concepts such as applied ethics, shared decision-making, and the role of peers in promoting person-centered care. Participants will learn about navigating moral dilemmas, using decision aids, and applying recovery-oriented approaches to empower individuals in their care. Through case studies, interactive exercises, and self-reflection, participants will develop practical skills to enhance collaborative care and respect for individual autonomy, leading to more ethical and personalized behavioral health practices.

 

This self-paced training is designed to be completed in approximately two hours. You must review all the videos in order to receive two hours of continuing education. Upon completion, you will be directed to a continuing education certificate at no cost to you.
