“Cultural Humility in Behavioral Health Care” is a free, self-paced, continuing education-accredited training. The course is a collaborative effort between Harborview Behavioral Health Institute and the Washington State Health Care Authority.

The course was designed for Substance Use Disorder Professionals and Trainees, Mental Health Practitioners and trainees, Peers, and others working in behavioral health care. The "Cultural Humility in Behavioral Health Care" training content was developed by Johanna Eager, M.Ed., and Elizabeth Perry, LICSW, HEC-C.

This course is designed to provide tools and knowledge for building cultural humility, which helps develop the ability to deliver respectful and culturally sensitive behavioral health care. The training covers key concepts, including behavioral health equity, the distinction between cultural humility and cultural competence, and the influence of implicit and explicit bias on professional practice. Through interactive scenarios and self-reflection exercises, participants will develop and apply practical skills aimed at creating more inclusive, effective, and compassionate care, fostering a more equitable health care environment.

This self-paced training is designed to be completed in approximately two hours. You must complete all the self-reflection exercises in order to receive two hours of continuing education. Upon completion, you will be directed to a continuing education certificate at no cost to you.
