Full course description
“Advancing Person-Centered Care in Substance Use Disorder Settings” is a free, four-part self-paced continuing education accredited training course. The course is a collaborative effort between Harborview Behavioral Health Institute and the Washington State Health Care Authority.
The course was designed for Substance Use Disorder Professionals, Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainees, Mental Health Practitioners working with individuals with co-occurring care needs, and other people working in or interested in substance use disorder care.
The "Advancing Person-Centered Care" training was initially developed and offered in the spring of 2021 as a three-part live, web-based training. The participants in the training were multidisciplinary team members from two substance use disorder treatment agencies in Washington State.
Based on feedback from participants, the training was adapted to a self-paced format to provide greater flexibility and accessibility. The original training content was developed by Milena Stott, LICSW, SUDP, Elizabeth Perry, LICSW, HEC-C, and Garrett Kostin, LICSW, SUDP. Garrett delivered the didactic content of the original training, and Milena and Elizabeth adapted the content to the self-paced format.
The course will discuss this work in the context of the evolving landscape and consider how bias, attitudes, and knowledge impact your daily work with people receiving SUD services and how you can prepare yourself to give the best care possible.
